Academic Coaching is an interactive partnership between a certified professional coach and a student that focuses on the process of learning how to learn. Together with their professional coach, students explore their learning preferences and study habits, as well as challenges or barriers to academic success.
Students who are motivated to learn and use effective study strategies are more confident that they will excel in their next test.
We will help students develop a detailed weekly schedule that prioritizes their needs. Time management plans are excellent organizational tools that promote significant success.
Our academic coach will help you utilize active learning strategies from day one! Transitioning from a passive to a proactive learner will help you gain the ability to monitor, plan, and control your mental processing skills, going beyond the memorization of facts.
Preparing for a multiple-choice test is different from preparing for an essay test. We can assist you in preparing for each type of examination and what to do in the test room on test day for academic success.
Our academic coach will assist you in deciding what you want to accomplish during your study sessions and help you develop a plan for studying using retrieval practices. The power of retrieval is a learning tool known by psychologists as a phenomenon that has an effect on performance during tests.
Many students have experienced some form of anxiety or stress prior to taking a test. Our educational consultant will provide you with tips and techniques to deal with test anxiety before, during, and after your examination.
A high-impact learning experience is one in which students actively ask questions, solve problems, work collaboratively with peers, experience real-world applications of knowledge, and reflect on their learning process. At High Impact Academic Coaching, we offer research-proven study strategies to promote genuine learning along every step of your courses, specific to mathematics and science education. Academic Coaching aims to enhance awareness of what it takes to achieve academic success and align this with new learning strategies, a supportive relationship, and personal accountability. We explore strategies that have a high impact on student learning. The coach and student co-create educational goals, active learning techniques, and action plans to achieve the student’s goals.
Another essential factor of Academic Coaching is helping students understand how managing time impacts their studies. Academic Coaching also relates to decision-making, problem-solving, critical thinking, and self-directed, lifelong learning. Focusing on these areas can be especially useful when students are experiencing a transition (high school to college or undergraduate to graduate or professional school) or a significant life challenge.
The return on investment for students working with an academic coach has been tremendous! Students who participated in an educational coaching experience had a definite effect on their grades. The University of Cincinnati found that Academic Coaching had a significant impact on students. Students who worked with an academic coach five or more times saw an increase of nearly a full point. Students who visited the coach more than seven times improved their average grade point average (GPA) by more than two-thirds of a letter grade, which is the difference between a B+ and an A grade!
